Just A Quick Note

Well friends, we're just about to the mark that leaves us only five weeks to compose and send comment to NPS regarding their final rule. They have already expressed no intention of a comment period extension due to their having failed to meet their April 1, 2011 deadline to have their "final rule" in place.

Interesting how NPS gets extensions and yet all of our extension requests have been denied.

What's important at this juncture is that you and everyone you can find, submit comment in favor of all access. Equally important is that your comment contain accurate information. I cannot stress the importance of looking to the access organizations and Island Free Press where you will find more, as well as this blog. You will also find instructions on how to submit your comment. Remember, during the comment period for the "Draft Environmental Impact Statement", 16,500 comments were rejected because they were submitted improperly.

The message is, get the facts, get involved, and then check your facts again before you comment.

Thanks to all the folks that have been working very hard to get the word out to the People about this travesty.

I'll post again soon.

Tight Lines,

Wheat

  1. Please submit a comment and ask everyone you know that loves the Outer Banks to do the same.
The alternative plans they have published and are looking to put into rule could close beaches for the next 10 to 15 years. After that time, the Cape Hatteras and Ocracoke Island we knew will cease to exist.

Having come down to OBX for the past 25 Years from Canada, I cannot believe we are at this point. We used to share the beach with the plovers. They were on the other side of the dunes... What about the Audubon society's mandate of preserving ecosystems? In the past years, NPS has gased Birds, kills predators all on behalf of the Plovers... An Ecosystem need all the animals and wildlife to comlete the circle. Furthermore, if they are worried about the plovers being in a state of extinction, send them to Manitoba! They are a pest down there. I am sure our government would send OBX a few of the birds to build up the population and leave ORVers alone. I hate having to stay on OBX and not being able to get to the point. Camping in Rodanthe therefore does not allow me to support the Buxton area merchants because I don't stop there until the point opens. This year, that was nearly four weeks after arriving in OBX!!!

As a Canadian, I don't think my comments would be received by your governement, but consider this, in the past 10 years, I have convinced over 20 families to visit OBX and go ORVing. Some come back every year, some have stopped coming because the beaches are closed!!!

  4. I have been coming to the outer banks for over 50 years with my family and friends. We have spent alot of money to support the outer banks.I don't think that visiters should be limited to the beach to drive on. Most drivers obey the rules of the beach. If the park rangers would enforce the rules of the beach it would not be much of a problem. My family and I have quit coming to the outer banks and will not come back. I think all donations to the park service should be stopped along with operation beach respect. The park service is killing the economy in the outer banks.OPEN THE BEACHES AS IT WAS DESIGNED FOR AND HELP THE ECONOMY GOING.....
